Daniel Urai and Felix Anthony have taken up the positions of Fiji Trades Union Congress President and National Secretary again, and they have done so without the Congress elections.
The two had resigned from their positions to contest the general elections in September but were unsuccessful in getting into parliament.
Urai has confirmed that they are back in the positions through an executive decision.
However according to the Fiji Trades Union Congress constitution,
the President, two Vice Presidents, National Secretary, Assistant National Secretary and the National Treasurer shall be elected at a meeting of Congress and shall be the office bearers of the FTUC.
The FTUC constitution further states that these office bearers shall be elected by and from the delegates present at the Congress by secret ballot.
Meanwhile FTUC’s Acting National Secretary, Rajeshwar Singh had confirmed to us after Anthony’s resignation before the September elections that the position will be filled in the Delegates Conference.
Singh had also confirmed that he would be acting in the post until the conference.
We are now trying to get Urai and Anthony.
Fijivillage called them yesterday and they had promised us that they will comment.
However our calls now remain unanswered.
