With service stations around the country going into self service mode, up to 400 employees who man the pumps are expected to lose their jobs later this month.

Fiji Fuel Retailers Association President, Baljeet Singh said the job losses are unfortunate but cannot be avoided.

He added that the 74 association members can no longer afford to pay these employees and arrangements are being made for these employees to receive redundancy packages.

Singh said the service stations themselves are victims of price control system which is squeezing the life out of their business and they can barely make a profit.
