The Ministry of Education has warned unregistered student transport providers that they will not be reimbursed for transporting students to and from school unless they register.

Minister Filipe Bole said not registering is illegal and compromises the safety of children and must stop immediately, adding that the safety of school children is of paramount importance and transport providers must know that.

Bole added only vehicles that have been licensed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and boats approved by the Fiji Islands Maritime Safety Administration (FIMSA) may transport students and be compensated under the free bus fare scheme.

He said the ministry said that no transport coupon must be given to transport providers that are not licensed and no money paid to them from the scheme.

Bole said all headquarter personnel, education district officers, principals and head teachers have been requested to strictly adhere to this instruction.
