Unions/Interim Govt to Meet Monday as Strike Looms
Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary Agni Deo Singh has revealed to Village News that they have been invited to talks with Bune and are hoping that a solution is found to resolve the standoff between the unions and the interim government.
Singh also confirms that they have applied for permits to hold public rallies from next week in preparation for the national strike.
The Office of the Commissioner Central, Northern and Western have confirmed receiving the applications, which have now been forwarded to the police for an assessment on whether the permits to hold the public rallies can be granted.
Meanwhile, Interim Public Service Minister Poseci Bune is expected to meet Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama later today to finalize the proposal which is expected to be put before the unions on Monday.
Bune will also meet members of the Fiji Island Council of Trade Unions sometime next week.
