The Confederation for Public Sector Unions is seeking a meeting with the Public Service Commission regarding PSC's decision to implement its decisions on the civil servants without negotiating with the employees representatives.
Union's spokesperson Agni Deo Singh said the Employment Relations Promulgation requires employees representatives and employers wishing to make changes to any clause, to negotiate.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of Fiji Public Service Association, Rajeshwar Singh said they have not been consulted about putting the civil servants on 3 year contracts.
The unions comments comes after PSC Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand stressed that under the State Services Decree, PSC is not required to negotiate with the Trade Unions before implementing any of its decisions.
This would also affect the unions as the issue of collective bargaining would cease to exist as individual contracts would be drawn up.
