The Confederation of Public Sector Unions stresses that their planned national strike is still going ahead as they now await a response from the Interim Public Service Minister Poseci Bune.

Speaking soon after meeting this morning which lasted around one and half hours, Confederation Chairman Rajeshwar Singh said there are signs that the interim government may give some leeway on its current stance on certain issues and there are positive signs so far.

The Confederation said the ball is now in the interim government's court and they expect a reply on their next course of action tomorrow.

Singh also revealed that they have not been given permits to hold their public rallies in Suva, Lautoka and Labasa this week.

However, Singh said they are now contemplating whether to go ahead with their rally starting in Suva on Wednesday if a permit is not issued.

Meanwhile, the application from the Confederation to hold rallies is still with the Police Force on a decision whether to grant the permit.

Police Commissioner Captain Esala Teleni is yet to comment on the matter.
