The Public Sector Unions are confident that the civil service machinery will grind to a halt when their members walk off their jobs.

With strike action looming by the Confederation of Public Sector Unions and the Fiji Island Council of Trade Unions, there will be a combined total of more than 39,900 civil servants walking off their jobs.

Public Service Commission Board Chairman Rishi Ram had earlier stated that each ministry has their contingency plan in place, to be activated when such a situation occurs.

Ram added that the ministries will fully utilize skeletal staff and will continue to offer services to the general public.

The Confederation of Public Sector Unions had lodged their 28 day strike notice for a nationwide strike on the 19th of July and their counterparts, the Fiji Island Council of Trade Unions, lodged their strike notice earlier this week for a strike on the 1st of August.
