Unionist Attar Singh will join the National Federation Party after resigning yesterday as the General Secretary of the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions.

On Friday, Singh resigned as the General Secretary of the Communications Mining and General Workers Union.

Singh said he has to resign as stated in the Political Parties Decree.

Under the Decree, a public officer, which includes trade union officials, shall not be eligible to be an applicant, official or a member of a proposed political party or a registered political party.

They should not engage in political activity that may compromise or be seen to compromise the political neutrality of that person’s office and they should not publicly indicate support for or opposition to any political party.

Attar Singh said there are some issues that needs the parliament to resolve and that’s why he has resigned.

He added that he has been with the National Federation Party since 1991 but he left because of the political parties decree and he will be at the NFP meeting this morning.

Singh said he supports the NFP policies and leadership.
