The Fiji Under 18 rugby team's four match tour of Australia started with a win yesterday when they defeated the New South Wales Combined Schools team 53-10.
The Samisoni Baikeitoga coached side ran in a total of eight tries in their opening match and only led 17-nil at halftime with a brace of tries to halfback Saula Colata.
The side lifted the tempo of the game in the second half, scoring six more tries which saw the final score read 53-10.
Manager Meli Tora said the boys did not have the size to match their opponents but they stuck to their game plan.
The Fiji Under 18 team will have the rare honour of sharing the international stage with the Australian Schoolboys team in a curtain raiser game, when the Wallabies meet the All Blacks at ANZ Stadium in Sydney next Saturday in the Tri-Nations and Bledisloe Test match.
Australian Rugby Union has confirmed the Australian Schoolboys side will play a Test match against the Fiji Schools team as the curtain raiser to the trans-Tasman blockbuster next Saturday.
Only once before have the Australian Schoolboys team played at the same venue on the same night as the senior national team, back in 2008 when they also took on Fiji in the countdown to a Bledisloe Cup Test at Suncorp Stadium.
