Having to conduct classes under the trees was just one of the many challenges faced by the current principal of Suva Grammar School when taking up office last year.
Waisake Ravatu revealed this while addressing ex-students on Saturday night at the end of the 50th Golden Jubilee Celebrations at the Vodafone Arena, after concerns were raised by former students about the school=s recent drop in academic achievements.
Ravatu said when he took over as principal last year, he was faced with the mammoth task of looking after a school roll of close to 1,500 students.
He added that another factor was the shift in focus where sporting activities took precedence from school work.
Meanwhile SGS ex-students Association president Jasmine Tam said with two of their representatives in the Board of Governors they will work closely with the school management to get the school back to it's glory days, and help with the repair and maintenance of facilities where ever possible.
