People have been called to stay in the kitchen until the food is cooked and the stove turned off or the fire place be put out completely.

The call comes from the National Fire Authority after unattended cooking has so far destroyed six homes in the Northern division in the past nine months.

The Acting Chief Fire Officer Tupou Saubulinayau said unattended cooking has been one of the major causes of house fires in the country which is now becoming a major concern.

He said the figure shows that people are not paying attention to the advice given by the NFA and neither are they learning from other people's mistakes.
