A brilliant three-try haul from flying Fiji Bati and Newcastle winger Akuila Uate put a dagger through the heart of Manly's top-four aspirations last night when they lost 32-14.
In an upset which leaves Sea Eagles fans more than a little nervous about even making the playoffs, Newcastle came up with easily their best performance of the season to keep their own faint title hopes flickering.
But it was the flying Fijian Uate who stole most of the honours, scoring a hat-trick before halftime to set his side on the road to an upset and take his personal try haul for the season to 20.
Coach Rick Stone said Uate was "far from a finished product" but was understandably thrilled with his performance and that of his
team.
