Vodafone Fiji Bati player Akuila Uate's Newcastle Knights defeated Warriors 24-14 in the first round of the 2015 NRL last night.

Newcastle centre Dane Gagai has earned praise from his coach Rick Stone and wing partner Akuila Uate following his show‑stealing performance in the Knights' who came‑from‑behind to win over the Warriors.

After scoring two tries and making multiple tackle breaks and 200‑plus metres, Gagai showed why Stone never considered dropping the 23‑year‑old for Australian representative Sione Mata'utia for Newcastle's season opener.

In other results West Tigers beat Gold Coast Titans 19-18 while the Cowboys lost to Roosters 28-4.

Meanwhile, in the matches today Panthers takes on Bulldogs at 6pm and Sharks faces Raiders at 8:30pm.
