Fiji Bati hopeful Akuila Uate scored a try last night to help his Newcastle Knights side beat the Canterbury Bulldogs 22-6.

The Knights are two games away from an NRL grand final while the Bulldogs have been eliminated from the finals.

It was the first time in seven years the Knights have won a finals encounter and the visitors were worthy victors.

The Knights will now face the Melbourne Storm in the second semifinals of the NRL at 9.45pm this Saturday while on Friday the Manley Sea Eagles play the Cronulla Sharks at 9.45pm.

Meanwhile the Sydney Roosters and the South Sydney Rabbitohs have already qualified for the preliminary finals and will await the winners of the semifinals.
