The government of India, the Asian Development Bank and the University of the South Pacific are expected to forge a groundbreaking partnership to provide a major boost to distance learning in the Pacific region.

USP Vice Chancellor Rajesh Chandra led a delegation to India to inspect a number of Universities they will partner with to offer distance learning courses.

Speaking to Radio Australia, Chandra revealed that Information and communications technology will be upgraded at campuses in 12 Pacific nations and hundreds of new courses will become available starting as soon as next year.

Chandra said this marks a significant development for education in the region as they have already signed a memorandum of understanding with one University in India.
