For the remainder of the year up until 2012, the University of the South Pacific is aiming at increasing the number of their senior staff.

USP Vice Chancellor Doctor Rajesh Chandra made the comment in relation to the inclusion of well known poet, playwright, film director and academic Vilisoni Hereniko.

He added that with the aim of increasing the number of senior academics, USP will be able to achieve their goal of being known as an institute for world class learning.

The Vice Chancellor expressed joy at the fact that 27 percent of this year’s 823 graduates walked away with post graduate degrees, certificates or diplomas, while 26 people had Masters Decrees and 4 had PhDs.

Apart from the strategic plan to increase the number of senior staff, Chandra added that they are also looking at increasing research projects as well as the number of research degrees on offer.
