A little more than 400 workers at the University of the South Pacific are expected to walk off their jobs tomorrow morning in protest over the treatment they have received from management.
USP Staff Union General Secretary Litiana Waqalevu said their plan is to start the strike early adding that so far there has been no word from management in addressing their grievances.
Waqalevu adds their issues are about the dissolving of the media centre and the non-advertising of vacancies in USP.
“Plans for tomorrow is that we pull out all workers from 7’o’clock in the morning because we have members who start at 7 and with management, so far there is nothing coming in from management but we have a copy of trade dispute that they had lodged against us with the Ministry of Labour and also a letter from the Director of Human Resources reminding us about the promulgations of the new ERP that is being in-place. But I must assure everybody that we are properly in line with the ERP that is in-place and we have followed all procedures that’s required of us to go on strike”.
Waqalevu said the Union has followed proper procedures to go on strike with a secret ballot held yesterday supporting the move.
The USP Management has refused to make any comment on the matter.
