The United States Agency for International Development or USAID will return to the Pacific with a new office in Fiji.

According to ABC News the announcement was made by American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Honolulu as she spoke on the first stop of a two week, 10 nation Asia Pacific tour.

It is all part of the Obama administration’s move to boost ties with Pacific and Asian countries.

Clinton clarified the importance Washington is placing on the Pacific region.

Clinton revealed that they are working through the Pacific Islands Forum to support the Pacific island nations as they strive to really confront and solve the challenges they face, which ranges from climate change to freedom of navigation.

She stated that USAID would return to the Pacific next year, opening an office in Fiji with a fund of $21 million to support climate change mitigation.
