The US$40 million contract deal with Malaysian company Naim Cendera, to be financed by the Exim Bank of Malaysia for road works in Fiji, is now in its contract execution stage.

In a Works Ministry statement in one of the dailies, the government confirmed this stating the contract will have a positive effect on Fiji's road conditions, which has gone worse from the lack of periodic and routine maintenance financing.

The statement goes on to say that the contract will also have a positive effect on the national economy and create local employment, subcontract and commercial opportunities for the private sector.

The statement added the contract will cover 153km of prioritized roads and stretches, Fiji wide which includes pavement upgrade, maintenance and resealing works of Fiji Wide highway and urban roads.
