US Fiji’s Most Important Trade Partner
The US Foreign Trade Division announced that Fiji's exports to US from January to June this year was US$74.3 million, compared to US$55.6 million in 2007.
This however is less than Fiji's combined exports to Australia and New Zealand for the same period, which is US$73.5million, with exports to Australia recording US$52 million and New Zealand US$21.5 million.
Fiji's Trade Commissioner to the USA, Ilisoni Vuidreketi said although our balance of trade with Australia were negative, the US recorded a positive balance of trade making it Fiji's most important trade partner.
Exports to the US which recorded impressive growths during the six months period include mineral water, fresh and frozen fish, mahogany timber, dalo, cassava, agro-produce and natural oils.
Fiji's total imports from the US for the first six months was US$18.3 which was mainly medical equipment, computer equipment, electrical and office machinery, plastic and pharmaceutical products.
