The United Nations is unlikely to oppose the interim government's choice of diplomat to take up the post at the UN headquarters in New York or blocking Fiji's military for overseas peacekeeping missions.
Australian based Fiji academic Brij Lal said the UN are unlikely to be influenced by pressure from Australia, New Zealand and the Bush administration.
Bainimarama said Lt Colonel Mason Smith has been seconded to take up the post in New York.
