There are now 112 cases of typhoid in the country.

The number has increased from 99 on Monday to 112 as of yesterday.

The Health Ministry said almost 60 initial cases have already recovered with no deaths so far.

There were 25 cases recorded in the North, 42 in the west and 45 for Central and Eastern including three cases sent from Taveuni.

The Health Ministry said the severity of illness due to typhoid fever is generally associated with the delay in seeking treatment therefore the ministry advises if anyone has a high fever and has flu like symptoms that extends beyond three to four days without any sign of recovery, should seek consultation at the nearest health facility as soon as possible.

Some preventative measures is for you to wash hands thoroughly with water and soap and before preparing food and drinks, cover all food well, boil all drinking water at least 20 minutes, ensure basic approved sanitation or disposal human waste is in place and see doctor if you think you have the symptoms of Typhoid fever.
