More people have been found to be suffering from typhoid in the northern division compared to last year.

Chief medical officer northern Doctor Pablo Romanik said 117 people have been diagnosed and treated in all of the division's hospitals which is also attributed to the continuous bouts of rain in the north since January.

He said Taveuni itself reported of 23 cases from January to this month.

General manager Community Health Sister Silina Waqa has revealed that last year the number of reported cases of typhoid was 319 while it is 120 this year.

The Ministry's senior health directors have been in the north this month to conduct a typhoid symposium while health care professionals are also there to educate people about practicing good personal hygiene, have proper toilet facilities, have clean water facilities and live in clean environments.
