Two charged with defilement given bail
22 year old Shadab Iftikar Buksh is charged with one count of abduction and 22 year old Amitesh Prakash is charged with two counts of abduction and defilement. Both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Police Prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that this is a serious offence and they have a responsibility to protect young girls. However, Magistrate Anare Tuilevuka granted them bail of $800 and ordered them to report to the Labasa Police station on every Saturday between 6am to 6pm, and not to interfere with the witnesses and to keep away from the victims.
The case has been adjourned till 6th August.
The two allegedly abducted and defiled a 14 and 15 year old girl on Friday and when they failed to reach home on Friday, the parents contacted the police and the two were arrested in Korotari and Seaqaqa.
