Two Way Race For Fiji 7s Coach Position
Fijivillage had received confirmation that former 7s coach Waisale Serevi and Josateki Savou were the only two applicants interviewed by the FRU board last Friday.
While the selection criteria requires the successful coach to have a level 2 IRB coaching certificate it is understood Serevi's coaching record as the only local coach to win a IRB 7s series has carried alot of weight for him to be the front runner in getting the nod although he does not meet the necessary requirements.
The FRU has made it clear that Serevi can only return to be part of the Fiji team as a coach or technical adviser but he will not be allowed to play.
For Savou making the final cut after the FRU board looked at more than 10 applicants means that they still have faith in him and it will not be a surprise if they will give him another chance.
Another option is Serevi and Savou to team up again to take the Fiji 7s team. The board that conducted the interviews consists of FRU CEO, Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua, Vili Varasikete, Poasa Ravea and Graham Leung.
