Two Forensic Accounting experts in country
Forensic accountants are involved in recovering proceeds of crime and as well as looking into paper work to detect proceeds of crime or money laundering.
The two, Professor Dr Syed Noh and Professor Low Koh Koon are assisting Police and FICAC officers in capacity building as they are the two top Malaysian experts in the field of Forensic investigation.
According to FICAC, there is no trained and qualified person in Fiji who can deal with forensic accounting however their officers have been undertaking courses at the University of the South Pacific and in Australia.
Media officer, Erica Lee explains that there is indeed a need for such specialists as forensic accounting is an integral part of FICAC's job where they will look at receipts and other evidence to be able to detect and find a trail of corruption.
She added that the two will assist their officers in ensuring that the public interest is protected and there is no breach of public trust.
The workshop will also enable FICAC officers to be able to investigate, expose and prevent corruption involving public officials.
The week long workshop is currently underway at the Tanoa International Hotel in Suva.
