Police are calling on parents to closely monitor their children during the school holidays after two children aged 9 and 4 years drowned in two separate incidents.

Police Spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed a 4-year-old girl's body was found floating in the Nabouvesi river yesterday afternoon.

The girl who was staying with her uncle went to the plantation and after sometime she was discovered missing.

A search was conducted and her body was found floating in the river.

In another incident, a 9-year-old student was found dead in the Soasoa River in Labasa.

According to police the boy who was staying with his aunt went missing over the weekend.

His body was retrieved from the Soasoa River yesterday.

Police are awaiting the post mortem report.
