Fiji weightlifter Manueli Tulo and Sprint queen Makelesi Bulikiobo were the stars of Fiji Sports Awards last night at the National Gymnasium.

Tulo surprised everyone at the Gym, when he was named the Sportsman of the Year for 2008.

The 18-year-old Tulo who won Fiji's first Gold medal at the Pune Commonwealth Youth Games, surpassed Awards favorite Soccer's Roy Krishna, Athletics Niko Verekauta and FRU rugby referee James Bolabiu.

Bulikiobo grabbed her third Sportswoman of the Year Award after an outstanding performance in the Athletics arena last season.

Meanwhile the Male Youth Athlete of the Year Award went to Banuve Tabakaucoro of Athletics while Swimming's Teri Erasito was named Female Youth Athlete.

Fiji Chess star Manoj Kumar was named the National Male Athlete and Fiji Karate rep Adi Drodrolagi Kidia was the National Female Athlete.

Vodafone Fiji Bati also had something to cheer for, as they were awarded with the Team of the Year prize, for making it to the semifinals at the Rugby League World Cup.
