Tui Tai expeditions recognized for bravery
Tui Tai expeditions, which takes tourists on a tour of the remote islands in the North has been recognized for the crew's bravery in rescuing a two member team during the height of Tropical Cyclone Tomas earlier this year.
According to new Zealand's Sailworld.com, the first of the two International Maritime Bravery Award of the Year award went to the Captain and crew of the Tui Tai Adventure Cruise.
The Captain, Angus Hill and his crew Owen Whippy, Isoa Vosaniyavu, Marika Madden and Esala Naitani had rescued two crew members of a yacht which was swept ashore during the strong winds.
Hill said that the crew received the distress call and the only thing that came to their minds was saving a life and they battled strong winds to rescue the members on the yatch.
Meanwhile, the other award for bravery at sea went to James Fanifau, a fourth engineer, who rescued one American and one New Zealander.
The yacht east of Brisbane was taking on water and sinking, and Fanifau braved poor visibility to rescue the two.
