A tsunami warning has been issued for Fiji after an earthquake occured off Vanuatu at 10:03 this morning measuring 8.1 on the Richter scale.

Senior seismologist at the Mineral Resources Department Lasarusa Vuetibau has just confirmed that a tsunami has been generated after the earthquake in Vanuatu in the last hour.

Vuetibau said people should take all necessary precautions now.

Those who live along the coastal areas and low lying areas are advised to move to higher ground until the clearance is given.

This is the message from acting director National Disaster Management Office Pajiliai Dobui.

This is after an earthquake occurred near Vanuatu this morning at 10.03am and recorded 8.1 on the Richter scale.

The estimated arrival time of the Tsunami is at 11.40am.
