Every single office and department should already have a tsunami response plan in place.
Following the tsunami warning issued on Thursday which saw the early closure of schools and businesses, with streets being congested with traffic as people rushed to higher ground, the chairman of the Fiji Tsunami Working Group and Weather Office director Rajendra Prasad said better planning is the way to go.
Prasad added the response plan should be in place at all levels.
Following the tsunami warning, a lot of complaints were raised by members of the public, however, Prasad said it is better to take precautions to avoid a major disaster from happening.
He added next week all stakeholders will be meeting to see how they can also reduce unnecessary panic during times of a disaster.
