The Nadi Weather Office has now revealed that there is a tropical cyclone within the Fiji Group and they have named it Tropical Cyclone Mick.
Director Nadi Weather Office, Rajendra Prasad reveals that Tropical Cyclone Mick is a category 1 tropical cyclone that is expected to bring about strong winds that might travel at about 70 km an hour.
However, Prasad says that Tropical Cyclone Mick is likely to cause more flashing flooding than damage.
Meanwhile, Prasad says at the moment, Tropical Cyclone Mick is a little distance away from Fiji and the plotted course of Tropical Cyclone Mick sees it heading on a course between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu however the Office is not counting out the possibility of a sudden change in direction.
The system has a lot of rain bands that sees a flash flood warning in place for low coastal areas and those that have temporary sheds and structures to start anchoring them.
The Nadi weather Office is now calling on people to remain at home as a warning is given out 24 hours before the Tropical Cyclone hits.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Centre Acting Director, Pajiliai said that the public should start moving as it is not known at this stage what route the Tropical Cyclone Mick will take. He adds that they are already mobilizing to set up evacuation centers.
