Severe tropical Cyclone Ula which is a Category 3 system was located 170km south of Kabara or about 50km west‑northwest of Ono‑i‑lau at 7 pm today.

On this track, the cyclone is expected to lie about 250km south‑southwest of Kabara or about 130km west‑southwest of Ono‑i‑lau at 7 am tomorrow.

A storm warning remains in force for Kabara, Namuka, Fulaga, Ogea, Vatoa and Ono‑i‑lau.

There is also a gale warning for Moce, Oneata, Matuku, Totoya and Komo.

The Nadi Weather Office says destructive winds may begin several hours before the cyclone centre passes the Lau group.

Kabara, Namuka, Fulaga, Ogea, Vatoa and Ono‑i‑lau may face destructive storm winds with average speed of 105km per hour and momentary gusts of 155km per hour.

There may be damaging heavy swells with sea flooding of low‑lying coastal areas.

However, Moce, Oneata, Matuku and Totoya may face damaging gale force winds with speeds of 75km per hour and momentary gusts up to 100km per hour.

Mariners in the Lau and the Koro Sea should expect winds of hurricane force.

The rest of Fiji should expect moderate to fresh west to southwest winds and occasional rain.
