A Tropical Cyclone Alert is now in force for the Western half of Viti Levu, Kadavu, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group. 

A damaging swell warning and a strong warning has also been issued for these areas.

Authorities are advising those living in these areas including coastal communities to continue to monitor weather reports and to make the necessary preparations. 

Mariners are also advised to monitor weather reports and to secure vessels.

Conditions could intensify in the next 24 to 48 hours and is likely to produce heavy rain and strong winds. 

This is likely to cause flash flooding in some areas.

Nadi Weather Office Director, Alipate Waqaicelua said Tropical Cyclone Lusi Category Two was located about 977km West of Nadi at 3pm today. 

It is still close to Vanuatu and is moving southeast at 9km/hr. 

It is intensifying and is expected to be upgraded to a hurricane tomorrow.

Waqaicelua said heavy rain and strong winds will pick up from tonight going into tomorrow.


Waqaicelua said hourly assessments are being carried out and further details will be provided if the Western and Southern Divisions will be affected by Cyclone Lusi.
