Fiji Electricity Authority says that the the tripping of transformers in Vuda triggered off a power blackout in the whole Western Division.

FEA Chief Executive Officer, Rokoseru Nabalarua has confirmed that the power failure was caused by a technical fault on the Vuda Rarawai transmission line.

The fault was caused by a logging contractor cutting trees in the Lo-lolo area. A tree directly fell onto a transmission line causing the conductor to fall off the pin insulator causing the transformer to trip.

Mabalarua says that they their technical teams have been in the field fixing the fault and is hoping that the power will be restored back to the affected areas by late this afternoon.

He also says that everyone must treat the power line in their area as live, and report any fallen lines immediately.

Meanwhile power supply has been normalised from Korolevu,Sigatoka, nadi,Rakiraki, lautoka and parts of ba and Tavua areas.
