Treu wants to rewrite NZ 7s history
South Africa Sevens coach Paul Treu is looking to rewrite his name in the New Zealand Sevens history book this weekend.
Treu is eyeing to become the first SA coach to win the title both as a player and now as a coach.
As his side arrived in Wellington this week, Treu has made his intention known to his boys, saying that they will have to win this tournament in order to stay in contention of defending the IRB Sevens Series title.
Treu said he will be bringing memories of him being the captain when they last tasted a win in 2002, a performance he can only hope and pray the team will be able to repeat this weekend.
South Africa is in pool A with New Zealand, Niue and Wales.
The New Zealand Sevens starts on Friday at 1pm with Samoa playing France.
The Digicel Fiji Sevens team’s opening pool game is against Scotland at 2.28pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, former Fiji Sevens coach Waisale Serevi is the only player to have won the NZ International Sevens as both player and coach.
