The Citizens Constitutional Forum believes that the methods of travel bans being utilised by the interim regime and the New Zealand government to sanction certain citizens, is a petty exercise.

CCF Chief Executive Officer Reverend Akuila Yabaki said this can infringe on the Human Rights of Freedom of Movement and also their Freedom of Expression.

Yabaki said the travel bans being imposed by the interim regime can only be described as personal which appears to be of no consistency and without proper explanations.

Yabaki believes that sufficient reasons and evidence must be provided before the imposition of travel bans.

Fiji Human Rights Commissioner Shaista Shameem had earlier said that people’s rights are still protected under the constitution but with limitations.
