The US Embassy said anyone who participated in the December 2006 coup will not be able to travel to USA, even after leaving the interim government.

The reaction comes after the US Embassy was asked whether it will lift its travel restrictions imposed on the Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry, Lekhram Vayeshnoi and Tom Rickets who resigned from the interim government on Monday.

The US government announced a policy to impose travel restrictions on senior Fiji military and interim government officials who actively participated in the military coup in 2006 or in the establishment of an illegitimate interim government.

However, the Embassy reports while the travel restrictions remain in place, it does not comment on individual visa cases.

The same stance is taken by the Australian and British High Commissions.
