The travel advisory for its citizens put in place by the New Zealand Government is completely inaccurate and misleading.
Those were the words of interim Minister for Tourism Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum about the travel advisory the New Zealand government had issued warning people not to travel to Fiji as it is not safe.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the travel advisory highlights issues which are irrelevant to the safety of tourists in Fiji.
He added the media also plays a huge role in whether people ultimately decide if Fiji is safe or not.
The New Zealand government is now advising its citizens that there is some risk to their security in Fiji and for them to take caution following the expulsion of the Acting High Commissioner Caroline McDonald.
The revised travel advisory said the expulsion could lead to increased tensions and New Zealanders in Fiji are advised to exercise particular caution and maintain a low profile.
It said Fiji is calm but a rapid deterioration to the situation, including the potential for civil disorder and violence cannot be ruled out.
