Public transport operators have questioned why they should pay the Road User Levy, when the roads are in a bad state.
This was raised today at the 8th Fiji National Transport Consultative Forum currently being held at the Novotel Convention Centre in Lami.
Fiji Taxi Union's General Secretary Rishi Ram said it is unfair that people are being charged for a service which is not provided by the relevant authority.
It has also been proposed at the meeting to introduce a compulsory 6 monthly vehicle inspection for Public Service Vehicles which has not gone down well with stakeholders.
The recommendation was made FIT's Dean of Faculty for Commerce Hospitality and Tourism Studies Dr Mahendra Reddy.
Reacting to this, Fiji Bus Operators Association general secretary Rohit Latchan said six monthly inspection of public service vehicles is a costly exercise.
However, Dr Mahendra Reddy said this has to be done to ensure the safety of the travelling public.
