The Ministry of Transport has issued a stern warning to taxi, bus and boat operators today.
Increase your fares and look at very heavy penalties or even losing your license.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Media Liaison Officer for the Ministry, Sainiana Waqanibete said that with the fuel increase operators want to take advantage without following the proper approach by seeking approval of the Ministry, LTA or even the Ministry of Finance.
According to Waqanibete, they have received a lot of complaints from the public and worried with the illegal increases.
Cabinet has approved that effective from this Friday the duty on diesel will decrease by 50 percent from 18 cents to 9 cents per liter, the duty on motor spirits will decrease by 23 percent from 44 cents to 34 cents per liter while the duty on pre-mix outboard fuel will decrease from 27 cents to 17 cents per liter.
