Changes are not easy and as a result funds had to be redirected to cater for certain transformations to the Korovou Prison.
These are the words of Fiji Prisons and Correction Services Commissioner Brigadier General Iowane Naivalurua to Pacific Island Heads of Correction Services after a tour of the Korovou Prison yesterday.
One of the results of the redirection of funds is 10 new cells, with each cell boasting its own bathroom and toilet.
Naivalurua said there are long term plans to eventually get more cells with bathrooms and toilets to help the offender and make life a little easier behind bars.
The Suva Prison, which was built in 1912 and is slowly but surely showing signs of improvement in infrastructure and facilities, has 232 offenders with 69 staff overseeing its operations.
