The Public Accounts Committee said all municipal council have expressed major challenges they face in dealing with traffic infringement payments.

According to the Committee when there was a traffic infringement, the council had difficulties in locating the vehicle owner and subsequently failed to obtain the required information to take legal action since the council did not have access to the database of the Land Transport Authority.

The committee firmly believes that this could be resolved through consultative meetings by the representatives of LTA and local government association to reach a satisfactory agreement.

LTA and local government ministry are expected to comment later today on the matter.
