The Traffic Control Division is working on a long term road safety strategy that will focus a lot on road safety education for pedestrians.

Director Traffic, SSP Mahesh Mishra said children and young people have a high involvement in road crashes.

He said road safety education by traffic police officers, teachers and the parents is one of the effective ways of providing youngsters with road safety knowledge, skills and attitudes that enables pedestrians, cyclist, motorcyclists, drivers and passengers to use the road safely.

SSP Mishra said on average, over 70 people are killed every year, and more than 20 are often pedestrians.
