Tourist police need to ensure that confidence and safety is provided to the tourists once they arrive at our shores.

These were the words of Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni while opening the Tourism Workshop and CID Training at the Fiji Police Academy today.

Commodore Teleni said tourism has been and will continue to be a major source of revenue for the country and safety and security are the only two elements in complete, quality tourism services at any one destination.

He adds that recent crimes against tourists has received local, regional and international attention which has placed the industry in a position of allocating its scarce resources to convince the tourists that it is safe to travel.

According to Commodore Teleni, stability, law and order must be maintained if we are to bring in more visitors into the country.

The workshop is designed to provide more understanding on the role of the Police in the tourism industry and provide necessary basic knowledge and skills.
