The Ministry of Health stresses that tourists and visitors to our shores are not at risk of contracting Typhoid due to contaminated water supply systems as the cases reported so far are confined to certain locations.

As the British Government issued a warning to its citizens travelling to Fiji of dangers of contracting Typhoid due to contaminated water, Interim Health Minister Dr. Jiko Luveni told Village that the issue is being blown out of proportion.

Dr. Luveni stresses that those affect so far live in areas where there is no piped drinking water and tourists and visitors are not at risk as claimed.

Rakiraki hospital confirms that there are no further confirmed cases of typhoid in the area after 12 people were confirmed suffering from typhoid which also claimed a life last week.

In the Northern Division, Health Officials confirm that there were two reported cases which have been treated and no further cases have been reported.
