Tourist arrivals increase
That is the revealation by the Tourism Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum who said that Fiji has seen an increase from the countries of Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
According to the latest figures provided by the Tourism Minister, comparing statistics from March of 2009 to March of this year, arrivals have gone up by 29.4%.
Australia recorded an increase of 64.8%, visitors from New Zealand increased by 34.6%, United States of America had an 18.8 percent increase with United Kingdom having 25.2% and South Korea a total of 21.5%.
However, Sayed-Khaiyum reveals that the biggest loss or decrease in tourist arrivals was from Japan with a negative growth of 51.6% and Canada with 10.8% decrease.
Despite this, Sayed Khaiyum said the arrivals for March are in line with the year 2008 where Fiji recorded its highest number of tourists.
But he said more needs to be done.
