A 43 year old tourist of the Republic of Cameroon charged with allegedly printing and circulating counterfeit US currency appeared in the Suva Magistrates court this afternoon.

Roger Mekam who is also allegedly overstaying in the country was charged with three counts of Possession of papers intended to resemble and pass as currency notes was unrepresented and was also denied bail.

DPP Lawyer, Ana Tuiketei told the court that the Police Transnational Crime Unit is also gathering some other evidences and it would be best if he is remanded.

Magistrate Amaniasi Katonivualiku remanded Mekam in custody saying that he has no fixed address and is a flight risk.

It is alleged he committed the offence between 28th of September to 14th of October.

Magistrate Katonivualiku also ordered the DPP's office to work with Mekam to arrange legal representation for him.

The case has been adjourned till 30th of this month.
