Tourism industry blessed
The Intercontinental Resort and Spa in Natadola is already hoping for an increase in the number of visitors.
General Manager, Neil Houghton said not only the hotels and resorts will benefit from these new flights but other stakeholders too who are somehow attached to the tourism industry.
Houghton also confirms that a number of passengers from the Continental Airlines and V Australia flights spent the weekend at their Natadola based resort.
Meanwhile, Oarsmans Bay Resort General Manager, Ratu Epeli Bogileka said they are negotiating with the two airlines on how they can attract the Australian and the Asian tourists in the Yasawas.
The first flight for Continental Airline touched down in Nadi on Saturday morning while V Australia arrived in Nadi on Friday.
With tourism being one of the industries acknowledged for helping the Fiji economy recover, Tourism Fiji said there is more to come in 2010.
Tourism Fiji Chief Executive Josefa Tuamoto made the comments after an improved ratings outlook from Standard and Poors on the outlook for Fiji increased from negative to stable, stating the improvement in tourism was a contributing factor.
Tuamoto said they have set a higher target for 2010, and this will augur well for the economy.
The rise has also been attributed to the 20 percent devaluation of the Fiji dollar in April, the Reserve Bank's capital controls, special drawing rights allocated to Fiji by the International Monetary Fund.
