Tourism Fiji hopes to earn over $23 million this year by luring close to 600,000 tourists to the country.

The Chairman of Tourism Fiji Patrick Wong is hoping the global economic crisis will not worsen there will be no extreme fluctuations in currency movements and no natural disasters this year.

He said that the global recession phenomenon is taking its toll on the country's foreign reserves.

He said although tourism earnings have dropped compared to the previous years, they hope to pick it with their tourism packages.

Wong said earnings for 2005 and 2006 however it started dropping after 2006.
